City of Warrenton

Warrenton is located on Highway U.S. 278, which for many years was used as the highway route from Atlanta to Augusta. U.S. 278, between Warrenton and Thompson, follows the path of the famous Upper Trading Path, an Indian Trail that led from Augusta to Indian settlements as far west as the Mississippi River.

According to 2000 Census, the City of Warrenton had a population of 2,013 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population decrease of -8.3%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
